Tyler Foundations Program
First year students at the Tyler School of Art must complete the rigorous 26 credit, 2 semester foundations program in order to learn the fundamental building blocks of visual art. These courses include Foundational Drawing (I&II), 2D Foundations(I&II), 3D Foundations(I&II), Arts of the World (I&II), Woodshop, and Investigations of Art and Design. Below are a few of my favorite works.
Time: This was the final project for Foundational Drawing II course, in which students were prompted to show the passage of time using a famous piece of art and incorporating the style of a children's book. For my project, I showed the life and death of the flowers in van Gogh's "Sunflowers" in the style of Shel Silverstein. Each composition is 14x17 inches.
Color Theory: Students were prompted to photograph a dynamic composition of their choice, then physically render it using acrylic primary colors and their knowledge of color theory. I captured this image of a cactus (left) and recreated it with paint (right) at approximately 16x20 inches.
Pattern: Students were introduced to the Adobe Illustrator program in 2D Foundations and the key project was to create a pattern with any subject and its deconstructed parts. I chose citrus fruits and used the rine, slices, seeds, and juice to generate a bright, fresh illustration.
